We offer lots of ways for youth to get involved. The skills we provide area students - through education, hands-on experience, and mentorship - instill a passion for media and create a path to employment and continued education in the field.

Victor Lopez is an amazing young person who is a junior at Battle Mountain High School. He is committed to giving back to the community, working with Mountain Youth and volunteering at High Five Access Media. We met Victor while helping the Battle Mountain video crew stream a concert. Coincidentally, we saw him again shortly thereafter at a freshman career seminar where High Five was presenting. Victor expressed interest in getting involved, and has since participated in several of our video production workshops and experiential opportunities covering local high school sports. Because of High Five, Victor now intends to study journalism in college.

“High Five Access Media is a great way to get into the world of video media and journalism. For me I feel so included at High Five wherever they are. The impact that they have on me is great because of how much they care about me in the sense that I'm a human also and not just a volunteer.”

-Victor Lopez

  • eagle valley student media

The Eagle Valley Student Media club is a hard-working collection of Intro to Journalism and Advanced Journalism students who produce web articles on eaglevalleystudentmedia.org and weekly episodes of the broadcast news show, EVTV. EVTV episodes are submitted to High Five Access Media for playout on local cable Channel 5/Live on Five, so we are able to share their reporting with the community. Their student journalists are often tenacious enough to cover topics that affect the community at large, and getting the message out beyond the high school community provides these students with valuable, real-world credentials to add to their resumes.
