High Five Brings Basic Workshops to Local Libraries

High Five Access Media is working with local libraries in February and March to bring you our free basic workshops at convenient locations in Avon and Vail.

These workshops teach you the fundamentals of video cameras and computer editing. Lay the foundation for a career in a related field, or get free access to professional video equipment to start making television to share with your friends, family and neighbors on High Five Access Media and social media. Library patrons and Eagle County residents and employees are welcome to attend.

The fun begins in February at the Avon Public Library with Camera Basics on Tuesday, Feb. 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. You’ll learn the fundamentals of shooting video, get familiar with basic operations of our cameras, learn about tools to improve audio and how to create a stable image. Participants also get hands-on practice shooting footage that they’ll use to piece together a short video in the follow-up workshop. In Video Editing Basics, on Tuesday, Feb. 15 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., students will learn to navigate Final Cut X, piece together video effectively to tell their story, and learn how to export projects for use on social media and broadcast.

A short orientation is required before attending the camera and editing workshops. In orientation, we will go over who we are, what we do and how to get involved with High Five Access Media. The membership fee is being waived for participants of these library events. Orientation will be offered virtually on Monday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. To register for orientation and workshops, please go to highfivemedia.org/february-2022-basic-workshops. Both Camera Basics and Video Editing Basics are offered monthly. Participants who complete the workshops become certified community producers who have free access to High Five Access Media’s video production equipment and may also show finished projects on local cable television and the internet.

Camera Basics will again be offered at the Vail Public Library on Saturday, March 12 from 1 to 3 p.m., with Editing Basics on Saturday, March 19 from 1 t 3 p.m. Virtual orientation for these workshops takes place Tuesday, March 1 at either 2 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. Register for these workshops at highfivemedia.org/march-2022-basic-workshops.
