Looking to stay active during the fall break Oct. 14 to 17? Look no further, High Five Access Media has you covered. We’ll be offering youth ages 13 to 18 free half-hour demonstrations from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on multimedia, video coloring, Claymation and green screens.

Following the demos, youth may take advantage of open studio hours from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to create media based on the demonstration, or work on another project. Certified community producers may checkout video equipment during these hours to work on their projects. This event is unsupervised. Youth are asked to come prepared with a project to work on.

Here's a detailed description of the week:

Demo # 1 Alternative Coloring - Monday 10/14 

  • 10:00-10:30 a.m. Introduction to alternative ways to produce color effects with hand-designed color gels, projection, lighting packages and concepts, and post production color effects in Final Cut Pro. Review the concept that less is more.
  • 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Open studio and equipment time.  

Demo #2 Claymation - Tuesday 10/15

  • 10:00-10:30 a.m. - Introduction to claymation and demonstration of building a strong armature, designing clay for animation, and in-camera editing of a stop-motion video.
  • 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Open studio and equipment time. 

Demo #3 Audio & FX - Wednesday 10/16

  • 10:00-10:30 a.m. Introduction to audio recording to create original sound effects. In this demonstration we’ll use microphones to record sound, then import files onto a computer for editing a multi-track spatial sound.
  •  10:30 - 12:30 p.m. Open studio and equipment time. 

Demo #4 Green Screen - Thursday 10/17

  • 10:00-10:30 a.m. Introduction to the green screen to create unique, hand-drawn backgrounds for Claymation characters. We’ll learn to use stop motion in the camera, how to light a green screen, and how to use software to remove the green and insert our original background.
  • 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Open studio and equipment time.
